“We must be willing to let go of the life we planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”

Joseph Campbell

1. Values

Always start with your Values. Generally, this will ensure you at least end up being who, you'd like to be, even if where you end up in life isnt exactly where you thought you may.

Try start with the section called 'On Commonly Held Values' under Values: Models & Theories to review a list of 26 commonly held values.

Viktor Frankl in his book 'Man's Search For Meaning' sums up his horrific lived experience and observations as, "Those who have a 'why' to live, can bear with almost any 'how'."

2. Energy Management

We are always better prepared for a situation when our Energy Management is optimal. To re-group after a set back, is it often worth making time for ourself and rebuilding prior to planning the next move.

3. Emotions & Detachment

Following on from Energy Management above, we then may want to review our Emotions.

It is well documented how poor our decision making can be when we lead with emotions and are not objectively viewing a situation from a place of Detachment.

Review and read from the Decision Making section of the Library for more. Perhaps try 'Thinking, Fast and Slow' by Daniel Kahneman to better understand how Cognitive Biases effect our thinking.

4. Self

Check in with your Self to ensure you are continually reviewing your mindset.

Stoicism is a useful practical philosophy to assist with resilience and overcoming obstacles. Review the Models & Theories section of Self for more. Also consider reviewing the Philosophy section of the Library for more. Perhaps try 'Meditations' by Marcus Aurelius, 'Letters to a Stoic' by Seneca or 'The Complete Works' by Epictetus.

5. Observe

Take the time to Observe your skills and experience and to ensure that in this transition you are being honest with yourself and facing reality, and in turn then strategise how you could best reposition your own uniqueness to move forward again.

6. Strength & Judgement

Now that you have checked-in on your foundations, try looking for opportunities to grow from the experience.

Review Strength & Judgement to see if there is an opportunity to turn the situation into a strength building or learning experience and emerge out the other side with additional benefits.

We wish you all the best. Enjoy and take care.
